Drum roll for children’s Christmas favourites

Conductor Stefano Boccacci with some members of the orchestra at last year’s Christmas concert for children in Coleford.

Children’s Christmas Concert: Saturday December 7 at 3pm Coleford Baptist Church

There’ll be a drum roll at this year’s Children’s Christmas Concert as talented young timpanist Jemma Hadley-Sharp performs her specially-composed piece Snow Steps with the orchestra at Coleford Baptist Church on Saturday December 7 at 3pm.

She has been holding workshops in local primary schools across the Forest in the build-up to the concert, which will feature children’s favourites such as Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf (with Jemma narrating), Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel and Hans Zimmer’s Pirates of the Caribbean.

Children in the audience will also be given the chance to join in with percussion instruments and have a go at conducting. They will be taking tips from conductor Stefano Boccacci, who is studying for a masters degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where Jemma is also a student.

Berry Hill Primary School choir will be singing carols and the school’s PTA will be serving refreshments afterwards.

Also joining in will be special needs and other youngsters from Forest of Dean Children’s Opportunity Centre, which will benefit from a retiring collection at the end of the concert.

Tickets on the door are £8 for adults, £6 concessions and free for schoolchildren.
